NFHS & State-Athletic-Association Compliance
Last updated: August 27, 2026
1. Why NFHS and state-association alignment matters
ProScouter is built for student-athletes, coaches, and schools across every U.S. state. High-school athletics are governed by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and enforced through each state’s own athletic association — the UIL, OHSAA, CIF, FHSAA, and their peers.
We align to that structure on purpose: playing rules, amateurism, recruiting contact windows, and eligibility all flow from the NFHS and your state association, not from ProScouter. Our role is to surface those rules where they matter and to keep every interaction on a verified, policy-aligned foundation.
2. Amateur status & NIL guardrails
NIL activity on ProScouter is designed to respect each athlete’s amateur standing under NFHS and state-association rules. Before a student-athlete accepts a deal, they — and, for minors, their parent or guardian — acknowledge their state’s amateurism guidance, and the deal is tagged with that acknowledgment.
Deal templates that would risk eligibility — performance-based pay, use of school marks, or inducements tied to attendance — are flagged so athletes and families can avoid them.
3. Recruiting contact windows & dead periods
Most state associations publish no-contact or dead periods during which coaches may not recruit or instruct a student-athlete. ProScouter’s recruiting pipeline shows the active contact window for each prospect’s state and guards outreach so a coach must confirm the contact is permitted before a message goes out during a documented dead period.
Contact-window data shown in ProScouter is indicative and provided as a compliance aid. Always confirm current rules with your state athletic association and the NFHS before contacting a student-athlete.
4. Athlete safety, privacy & medical data
Biometric and maturation data is collected only with explicit, revocable consent and is never surfaced to scouts or third parties without the athlete’s opt-in. Injury entries include return-to-play awareness so recovery is tracked responsibly.
A safe-sport reporting channel lets an athlete or family privately flag a concern to a designated administrator. Minor accounts remain restricted until parental consent is verified, per COPPA.
5. The existing high-school technology ecosystem
ProScouter is built to fit alongside the systems schools and associations already use — complementing, not duplicating, NFHS Network broadcasts, official rosters, and eligibility feeds. Schools can claim and verify their rosters through ProScouter, and athlete profiles can be exported in a roster/eligibility-compatible shape.
Our goal is interoperability with the NFHS ecosystem so verified stats and film strengthen, rather than compete with, the tools high-school athletics already relies on.
6. Reference & responsibility
NFHS: nfhs.org. NFHS Network: nfhsnetwork.com. Your state athletic association is the authoritative source for your rules; ProScouter’s compliance surfaces are an aid, not a replacement, for that authority.
